Students Taking Action on Global AIDS
Students Rally for World AIDS Day 2006
For World AIDS Day 2006, PHR student chapters raised awareness about the massive shortage of health care workers in AIDS burdened countries. In partnership with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and the Student Global AIDS Campaign (SGAC), students organized educational and advocacy events at more then 40 medical, public health and undergraduate universities. Students also worked to have their deans sign a letter to President Bush urging him to consider a US initiative to address the health worker shortage. The letter was signed by more than 100 prominent health professionals, including the deans of 34 medical, public health and nursing schools, 19 of them as a result of student efforts. The University of Rochester School of Medicine held an empty white coat rally outside of Senator Clinton's office and delivered 150 letters calling for continued leadership to fight HIV globally and locally.
