Warlord General Dostum's Return to Kabul Sparks Controversy
In response to the return of a notorious warlord to Afghanistan from Turkey, PHR renews its call for a full investigation of an alleged massacre of as many as 2,000 Taliban prisoners who surrendered in November 2001 to US and Afghan forces and who are believed to be buried in the desert of Dasht-e-Leili.

Physicians for Human Rights Calls on Obama To Launch Formal Investigation of Afghan Massacre
(Cambridge, MA) — In a letter to President Obama dated July 13, 2009, Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) CEO Frank Donaghue called on the President to order a formal inquiry into allegations that previous attempts to investigate a major war crime at Dasht-e-Leili, Afghanistan, were impeded by the Bush Administration.

President Obama Orders National Security Team To Investigate Dasht-e-Leili Massacre and Alleged Cover-Up
President Obama told CNN's Anderson Cooper that he has directed his national security team to look into the 2001 deaths of Taliban prisoners who allegedly were massacred by US-backed forces in Afghanistan. The President stated that the government needs to find out whether actions by the US contributed to possible war crimes.
