Darfur

A Book of Photographs from Physicians for Human Rights

The story of Darfur, told in haunting images and eyewitness accounts by Darfurians displaced from their homeland in Sudan.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker and photographer Michael Wadleigh accompanied PHR’s investigative team to Sudan and refugee camps in Chad, where they documented the systematic destruction of villages, lives and livelihoods of the Darfurian people by the government of Sudan and its proxy militia, the Janjaweed. The result is a stunning compilation of striking images and personal accounts that capture the devastation of a way of life.

The uncertain future of the Darfurian people will be decided by the response of the international community. The highest priority must be to protect refugees and internally displaced persons. Only when they are assured of their safety and are compensated for their losses, can the people of Darfur return home to reclaim and rebuild their lives.
