PHR Research on Food Insufficiency and AIDS Cited by the NIH and Council of Science Editors

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Council of Science Editors selected an article based on PHR's research for presentation during a event announcing the publication of a special Global Theme Issue on poverty and human development. Two-hundred thirty-five science journals throughout the world simultaneously published more than 1,000 articles on this topic on October 22, 2007.

The PHR article, "Food insufficiency is associated with high-risk sexual behavior among women in Botswana and Swaziland," by Sheri Weiser, MD MPH, et. al., was published in the October 23 issue of PloS Medicine. Dr. Weiser and her co-author, Dr. Nthabiseng Phaladze, gave a talk on the article, one of only 8 selected for presentation, at a special event at the NIH in Bethesda, MD on October 22, 2007.
