Letter to Supreme Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran Regarding Detention of the Doctors Alaei
PHR CEO Frank Donaghue has written a letter to the Ayatolla Sayed Ali Khameni, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Donaghue expressed "the deep humanitarian concern for the well-being" of Doctor Arash Alaei and his brother, Doctor Kamiar Alaei, who are reported to have been detained by Iranian authorities since the end of June. The doctors are leaders in HIV/AIDS education, prevention, and treatment in Iran.
Donaghue's letter appeals to the Ayatolla to disclose the doctors' whereabouts, provide them access to family and lawyers, and either charge them with an internationally recognized crime, or immediately release them.
