Stay Informed

  • Join the Health and Justice for Youth Campaign’s mailing list to receive updates on current legislation, action alerts and campaign updates.
  • Get involved in local advocacy in HJY’s key states: Connecticut, Louisiana, Illinois, Washington and New York.
  • Sign up for Google e-mail alerts that send you up-to-the-minute news on juvenile justice issues in your community
  • Contact your local juvenile justice advocacy group or juvenile court to learn about volunteer opportunities or special programs. Ask about facility monitoring, case advocacy and evaluation, or becoming a court-appointed special advocate.

Educate Your Community

  • Reach out to associations, colleagues and students by distributing education and action materials.
  • Organize and participate in trainings related health issues within juvenile justice.
  • Organize Grand Rounds lectures at your local teaching hospital.
  • Show a juvenile justice film or documentary in your community.

Reach out to the Media

  • Keep track of juvenile justice news happening in your area. Generate news by organizing a rally or vigil or respond to articles in the newspaper, radio, web or TV.
  • Write a letter to the Editor.
  • Submit an Op-Ed.
  • Write an Article.

Advocate for Policies that Support Positive Health and Justice Outcomes for Youth

  • Call your representatives and urge them to support important legislative issues affecting youth.
  • Endorse and send letters to policy-makers educating them on the policy implications affecting youth.
  • Meet with and educate policy makers on the risks faced by youth in the justice system.
