There is a shortage of pharmacists in Uganda, leaving lesser-trained technicians and nursing assistants to manage medicine supplies in rural health clinics. (© Vanessa Vick for PHR)

This study assessed the trends of medicine availability in health facilities in the three districts for a period of three months and documented the gaps between medicine availability and medicine demand. Through interviews with health workers and district health leaders, this study also explored the challenges faced by health workers in getting medicines to the health facility level and on to the patients who need them.
