Institutional Development Coordinator

Reporting to the Director of Institutional Development, the Institutional Development Coordinator is an integral member of the Institutional Development team and is responsible for conducting a full range of development activities that support fundraising plans for the programmatic areas of Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), including assistance with maintaining key institutional and prospect relationships; proposal management; donor and prospect moves management; and donor outreach and prospect research. The Coordinator will also provide administrative support to members of the team.

  • In consultation with the Director of Institutional Development, implement short and long-term strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward institutional funders for general and restricted support.
  • Support the Executive Director and Director of Institutional Development in day-to-day tasks and activities, including: researching and creating donor profiles; prioritizing and arranging the appointment calendars; coordinating supportive arrangements for meetings and appointments; composing/editing routine correspondence; prioritizing work and providing project support.
  • Identify new prospective institutional donors and perform prospect research utilizing available research tools. Prepare donor briefings.
  • Assist with prospect management activities, including tracking actions and organization information in Salesforce database.
  • Develop a thorough knowledge of existing and potential funders.
  • Keep track of proposal and reporting deadlines, and ensure adherence to all deadlines.
  • Collaborate with communications team to assist in digital and print cultivation and stewardship efforts that attract new funders and grow overall support.
  • Run complex queries and reports from Salesforce database and prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports tracking progress and metrics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s Degree with three or more years demonstrated successful development experience, experience with foundation relations and government grants a plus
  • Strong judgement and decision making skills
  • Outstanding communications skills, both verbal and written, including the ability to write and edit persuasively on a wide range of human rights issues, and the ability to grasp and communicate substantive PHR programs
  • Exceptional research and synthesis skills, and a very high bar for work product
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy
  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail, while meeting deadlines
  • Mature, flexible, resourceful, and a fast learner with the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to interact with donors, and represent the organization tactfully and diplomatically
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) with advanced knowledge of Excel; experience with a donor database such as Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to plan efficiently, organize, and manage several projects simultaneously with limited supervision or direction, while meeting deadlines
  • A commitment to human rights is essential
