PHR Board of Directors
Ali Khan
Mr. Khan is a native of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, born a few miles down the road at Fairfax Hospital and raised in Herndon, Virginia, where his childhood consisted of rooting for the Redskins, Bullets/Wizards, Capitals, United, Baltimore Orioles and (a recent development) the Nationals - which is probably the basis of his high tolerance for
pain and general sorrow. In 2001, he moved
to Richmond to attend Virginia Commonwealth University as part of its eight-year B.S./M.D. program, finishing up a degree in print journalism in the winter of 2004. Mr. Khan is currently a student at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government, pursuing a joint MD/MPP program with VCU's Medical College of Virginia, aiming to graduate in the spring of 2010.
Ali's interest in public health lies in the concept of health as a fundamental human right; through the experiences he's been fortunate enough to have, Ali strongly believes that everyone has a right to quality health care, no matter their race, gender, age or socioeconomic status. The intersection of medicine and public policy, with specific emphases on public health systems and health economics, is where he hopes to one day work, bettering the lives of both his individual patients and society as a whole.
